Computer Forensics
Conveniently situated in the centre of the country, MD5’s state of the art computer lab (now ISO 17025 accredited) has been law enforcement security vetted. All work undertaken by MD5 is fully compliant with ACPO standards. Our security cleared (CTC level) forensic experts are highly regarded in the computer forensic arena, developing leading edge forensic software tools such as Virtual Forensic Computing (VFC).
Our forensic investigators have accumulated a vast amount of knowledge and experience, and provide highly technical reports in an understandable format that non technical experts are readily able to comprehend. We are constantly striving to enhance and improve the service to our clients, and have recently invested in specialist training to enable us to deal with damaged/malfunctioning hard disk drives which forensic software tools would often fail to read. The forensic computing unit has recruited additional experienced investigators which allow us to provide urgent support to organisations nationwide with any backlog or outsourcing requirements.
MD5 offer different levels of service depending upon the needs of the organisation. We conduct a wide variety of work on behalf of corporate clients, legal sector (including defence work, IP theft etc) and police investigations. For any type of investigation please contact us for a quotation or for further information about the processes involved. Please also view our new 'triage' service which can significantly increase efficiency and cost savings.
Digital Evidence can be used in criminal cases, civil disputes and human resources/employment tribunal proceedings.
MD5 are constantly researching technology to enhance its investigative and forensic capabilities.

Fully Trained and Security Cleared Investigators
MD5 investigators have over 50 years of accumulated experience from both law enforcement and corporate computer forensic backgrounds. Additionally, all investigators are security cleared to CTC level.
Forensic Investigation Process
There are five stages to the digital forensics process including preparation, collection, examination, forensic analysis and reporting. Along with these steps maintaining the integrity of evidence is an integral part of the forensic process.
When conducting a computer forensics investigation strict measures need to be taken to ensure the integrity of the data, especially if the results will be used in a court of law. It is therefore critical that the evidence is accurately collected and that the chain of custody remains intact from the scene of the crime to the investigator and then on to the court. MD5 has procedures in place to ensure the chain of custody is maintained and that the computer forensics evidence is extracted and processed in an accurate a systematic manner.
